# openscad-web

> openscad-web (https://openscad.bongkow.com) is an OpenSCAD editor that runs in the web browser. The unmodified OpenSCAD 2025.03.25 engine (Manifold backend) is compiled to WebAssembly, so there is nothing to install. Sign in with Google; designs are saved to your account on the server. The site is also a remote MCP server, so AI assistants such as the Claude app, ChatGPT and Claude Code can create and edit designs in your account.

## Features

- Code editor (Monaco) with OpenSCAD completion, diagnostics and axis-coloured vectors.
- 3D preview (three.js) that recompiles as you type; preview compiles run in a Web Worker in your browser.
- Customizer: sliders and fields for the parameters declared at the top of a .scad file.
- Libraries bundled: BOSL2, MCAD, NopSCADlib.
- Export STL, 3MF or OFF (scaled to millimetres from the design's unit: mm, cm or m), or download the .scad source. Exports are compiled on the server.
- Open in Bambu Studio: creates a private 3MF link that expires after 15 minutes and opens a handoff page with a launch button and a download fallback.
- Designs: auto-saved per account, rename, delete, duplicate (fork), import a .scad file. Up to 4 reference images per design.
- Not supported: opening or viewing existing STL files. The app creates meshes from OpenSCAD code; it does not import them.

## Sign-in and privacy

- Using the editor requires signing in with Google. Only the Google account id, e-mail, name and picture are stored.
- Designs (name, code, notes, parameter values, unit, reference images) are stored in the app's database on the server.
- Browser sessions last 30 days. MCP access keys are stored as hashes and can be revoked in the app's Agent panel.

## Connecting an AI assistant (MCP)

- Endpoint: https://openscad.bongkow.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). openscad-web is its own OAuth 2.1 authorization server: the client registers itself, you sign in with Google and press Allow on the consent page.
- Claude app: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, Connect.
- ChatGPT: Settings → Connectors → developer mode → Create, paste the URL, authentication OAuth.
- Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http openscad-web https://openscad.bongkow.com/mcp`
- Tools include list_designs, open_design, new_design, fork_design, get_code, set_code, check_model (compile, measure, render views), get_project, get_params, set_params, export_model (download link), get_reference_images, add_note, search, fetch and openscad_view (interactive viewer in MCP Apps hosts).
